Spring House

The new structure, built from solid blocks of cut limestone, anchors the edge of a small San Antonio Plaza near the entrance to Pearl Brewery. Shaded by a vine covered arbor, the structure features a water basin centered around a natural stone formation sourced from the nearby Hill Country. Water erupts from the porous stone, laden with fern, and trickles into a small basin before emptying into an adjacent canal.

The load bearing limestone design draws inspiration from the work of San Antonio architect John Fries, who, in the late 19th century, established the nearby quarry in Brackenridge Park. His materials and vision helped shape some of San Antonio’s most enduring classical landmarks.
