Bluff House

The house is located in Gillespie County on a bluff overlooking the Palo Alto Creek and the remote greens of a rural golf club. There is a unique vein of Victorian Arts & Crafts architecture introduced into the region by mid-19th-century English architect Alfred Giles. The English country club house vernacular was well suited to the context.

The approach is down a narrow road through a grove before arriving at a gabled entrance on a south motor court. The foyer and main hall are stone structures with timber ceilings and form the heart of the house. The kitchen anchors the primary axis to the west and terminates at an east passage that opens onto a pristine lawn overlooking the golf course.
